Due to bad irrigation practices or as a result of climate change, salinity has become a threat in many areas of the world. In semi arid regions millions of hectares are lost due to accumulation of salts in the soil. In temperate zones sea level rising is threatening the coastal areas due to saline water intrusion.

Among the vast number of vascular plants only a few plants can resist high salt concentrations in their environment. Some of these halophytes can even resist sea water concentrations.
Our aim is to develop saline crops into profitable crops. Previously known as famine foods some of them are today grown out towards exquisite saline vegetables or sea vegetables that fit in the modern cuisine...In parallel we develop saline crops into feed components or integrate them in environmental issues like bioremediation.
